James Supercave - “Old Robot”
Stumbled upon this brilliant new EP by Echo Park experimental psyche-pop artist James Supercave. The Afternoon EP is four tracks, each one delving deeper into some sort of unknown nostalgic art pop genius. It’s definitely an addictive listen.

Kitty is back premiering her new EP, haha i’m sorry, on Complex this morning. Five songs, and not a one over three minutes, it’s a continuing of the strange genius we saw on Ok Cupid (which is no nestled comfortably in this EP). Not necessarily anything mind-blowingly different, but certainly a settling into what we could have considered just a fluke. A meme providing us more evidence that she might not stay a meme forever.
She stays light and charming as she’s so good at doing. More Beautiful Lou beats, a bizarre take on Call Me Maybe, and some guest appearances by dankte and Riff Raff of all people add a nice new level to Kitty Pryde sounds. smiledog.jpg might be my favorite take away, with it’s hyper self-awareness calling the listener, the hater, the lover, the meme perpetuators all out. She know’s what’s going on, you don’t need to worry about her.

Levek - Black Mold Grow
So happy to hear Levek getting on board with my pals at Lefse to release a new LP later this year! I’ve been long in love with the sounds David Levesque is able to make. He blew me away with the Father Daughter release of Look On The Bright Side. And now with Black Mold Grow we get more of these soulful, exploratory sounds, sometimes sounding like a soundtrack to a 70s cop movie, and sometimes like the thoughtful experimental shroud that has always covered the sounds of Levek. That’s one of the things I love most about him, is his ability to marry familiar pop sounds with his own brand of unique experimentation. It’s what makes Levek Levek.

Yung Life - Isn’t This
Wow, I can’t believe how good this is. I just remembered it was over two years ago when I first listened to these guys. I highlighted the song below over at my buddies Dipped in Dollars:
It’s amazing that, even back then, you can hear, buried deep under all that low fidelity sound, the solid, driving, epic sounds that have now emerged with their new track, Isn’t This.
Their new album drops June 21st, and I have a feeling it’s gonna be a doozy.
It’s no surprise. Another banger from recent 4AD artists Purity Ring. Needed to blog this to continue my efforts to support friends music I love. And this, I love.
