Slow Magic

The date 11/11/11 comes around only once a century:

“There is nothing unusual about the time 11:11 or the date 11/11/11, but our brains can’t help noticing the repeating digits, and seeing them as meaningful. “Numbers that are already significant to us, such as calendar dates that also coincidentally fall into an obvious pattern, become doubly significant. 11/11/11 is another example of people doing what people are cognitively prone to do: find significance.”

I really can’t help but post up nearly each and every sound I hear from this mysterious project. Slow Magic released this as if he/she had no choice in the matter.

And if that wasn’t enough, another remix by Giraffage has been left at our doorstep, like the beautiful baby it is:

It is rain in my face. = Vine Vine

A fine farewell to the week. Mat Jones of It is rain in my face. is releasing a new EP on Denmark Records. Vine Vine and some songs in the same vein will be included, and you can pre-order the thing right here.

Heavy reverbed vocals, and homemade beats make this a pretty immersive listening experience.

Blackbird Blackbird = Halo

Well, first of all, if you haven’t heard the new single from Blackbird Blackbird, Halo, you might want to reevaluate your life. It’s so different from Mikey’s usual electro-dream sounds. trying something new, he’s scaled down the sounds, but kept every bit of pop. Really excited to see where this takes him.

The video was actually made by my brother Zac, aka The Lonely Indian. On a recent trip to the beach, he shot some footage on his iPhone, and just decided to whip up this sweet video. With the things he’s been creating lately, I may need to make him Smoke Don’t Smoke’s official art director.

Blue Hawaii = Floral

The beautiful people at Arbutus Records are beautiful. With my recent post of the great Sean Nicholas Savage vids, we got talking. And this secret and amazing song from 2010 favorites Blue Hawaii came up.

Blooming Summer was by far one of my favorite releases last year, with a title all too apropos for it’s timing. But with Arbutus fresh out of cassettes, they are re-releasing the album on CD with two extra tracks to boot! Floral above and a remix of Dream Electrixra by David Carriere of Silly Kissers. Order the CD from the Arbutus SHOP.

GOBBLE GOBBLE = Nemo

If you thought for a minute I wasn’t going to be posting this, then you must be mad. GOBBLE GOBBLE posted this masterpiece yesterday. As Cecil suggests, it is a bit of a nod to the approaching ghoulish holiday.

As much good as I could say about this track, and this band, I’m really just posting this to make sure you have this.
