The beautiful people at Arbutus Records are beautiful. With my recent post of the great Sean Nicholas Savage vids, we got talking. And this secret and amazing song from 2010 favorites Blue Hawaii came up.
Blooming Summer was by far one of my favorite releases last year, with a title all too apropos for it’s timing. But with Arbutus fresh out of cassettes, they are re-releasing the album on CD with two extra tracks to boot! Floral above and a remix of Dream Electrixra by David Carriere of Silly Kissers. Order the CD from the Arbutus SHOP.
Let’s Get Together__

I’ve been sitting on this mix for a little while now. It all came together quite nicely, and I’ve been letting it settle in my musical stomach. And it seems the time has come to let everyone help me digest it.
Now a few things you must know about this mix; it’s filled with some serious summer tunes I’ve had on constant rotation for some time now, most significantly during my time home for my little brother’s high school graduation, where my entire family was home for the first time in almost two years. So I thought it appropriate to name it likewise. Second of ly, the mixtape you’re about to download is my first go at a “continuous” mix. I even experimented with a bit of sampling and transitions. Pretty novice stuff, but none the less a step in the right direction.
So ‘right-click’ on the track below to get the 55 minute continuous track. And click the big DOWNLOAD to get the individual tracks.

Myth Confirmed:
Blue Hawaii is stuuupid good.

Well it looks like Canada has done it again by bringing us some the most breezy, yet emotive, music around. Montreal duo Blue Hawaii have an amazing new album out on Arbutus called “Blooming Summer”. And the best thing is it’s free for download! The inevitably solid cassette is also available for just $5 (highly suggested).
I saw these guys explode all over the internet earlier this week thanks to Gorilla vs Bear, but didn’t download and listen to the album until later in the week, and I cannot stop listening to it. It’s breezy, light and fun, but somewhere in there is this strange pull of the heart strings. Maybe it’s Ra’s vocals that sometimes reminisce of jj, and at other times of Elizabeth Sankey. Whatever the case, this eight track album is a gift and you won’t be sorry downloading it and putting it on repeat for a few weeks.
And this stop-motion video is further evidence of their greatness:
