Blackbird Blackbird = Montauk (feat. Steffaloo)
I’m not just reblogging this because it’s my sister. I really dig this song, and have been excited about it since I heard it months ago. It’s cool to see what happens when two different genres mesh so well. A true testament to Mikey and Steffaloo’s chemistry. Maybe my favorite collab they’ve done yet.
This song was released in an LP Blackbird just dropped a week or so ago. You can go grab the whole thing over at his bandcamp.
(reblogged from steffaloo)
Well, first of all, if you haven’t heard the new single from Blackbird Blackbird, Halo, you might want to reevaluate your life. It’s so different from Mikey’s usual electro-dream sounds. trying something new, he’s scaled down the sounds, but kept every bit of pop. Really excited to see where this takes him.
The video was actually made by my brother Zac, aka The Lonely Indian. On a recent trip to the beach, he shot some footage on his iPhone, and just decided to whip up this sweet video. With the things he’s been creating lately, I may need to make him Smoke Don’t Smoke’s official art director.
It seems that Mikey Sanders and Austin Woods creative capacity knows no bounds. Their new project Wolf Feet just popped up on my radar yesterday, and they’ve got a three song EP full of psyche-popish freakfolk jams that if I didn’t know any better is an exercise for both Austin and Mikey in “less electronic” music. Glad to see they aren’t constrained by really anything when it comes to making more music.
We’ll see where this goes, but for now you can grab there self-titled EP on bandcamp, and follow them on tumblr. And enjoy this video Mikey put together for the song above.

Blackbird Blackbird = Hawaii (Chrome Sparks Remix)
Jeremy from Chrome Sparks sent over his fresh-out-the-oven remix of Blackbird Blackbird’s Hawaii, and I listened to it on repeat all the way to work today. As you know, remixes of Hawaii are plentiful. But I can honestly say, this remix takes the cake. The wobbly synth in the second half is my favorite. It adds some sort of playful nostalgia, both warm and crisp.
As Jarred over at Life: Aquatic said, Chrome Sparks is a seriously talented producer, and demands anticipation for his future material.

Another awesome remix for Hawaii dropped this week by Bear Mountain. And two brand new tracks from Blackbird Blackbird that are like nothing you’ve ever heard from him. In a good way!
