We are super excited to announce another amazing addition to the CMC family. Help us welcome the multi-talented Canadian Sing Leaf. David Como has been making music as Sing Leaf for a while now, and Watery Moon is his first proper full-length effort. David is as versatile as he is talented, and Watery Moon covers a whole gamut of styles and takes on pop. From highly instrumental sounds, incorporating both electronic and acoustic elements, to more straight forward folk-pop songs like Same Old Satellite (below) – all overlaid with his unique vocals that somehow manage to fit into any music territory he creates.

This is one of the most distinctive and wide ranging projects we’ve put out, and really excited for it. You can head over to our Bandcamp to stream a few more tracks from the record, and be on the lookout for pre-orders soon. The record is due out May 7th.

Doprah - Love That I Need

This New Zealand project sent me over this two track EP a couple weeks ago. But I remember listening to it for the first time. It’s not entirely immediate, but the combination of Doprah’s psychedelic tendencies and the over powerful and distinctive vocals from Indi Force. The result is a unique but addictive listening experience.

This young producer from the Netherlands sent me his stuff a while ago. And as you can tell I haven’t posted in a long ass time. New jobs will do that to your blog. Kill it. So hopefully this is the beginning of me getting back into the swing of things. I can’t make any promises, but hopefully that’s the case.

This track is so unbearably chill, it sweeps you away. Perfect for the late nights where you’re too tired to fall asleep, but also too tired to do anything. There’s not a lot to listen to online, but everything you can find, you will on his Soundcloud. Definitely anticipating more.

Rules - I’mPatient

I may be a bit late on this, but DC producer Rules caught me instantly. The production is top notch, and seems to become almost tangible at points. Transcending into something you interact with, move your body too, react to. Definitely a project to look out for in 2013.

Florida favorites, Day Joy, just released this video yesterday, and it certainly packs a punch. They have a knack for lush multi-layered pop, both honest and emotional. Go To Sleep, Mess most definitely errs on the side of emotional, and the video to accompany just as intense as the pleading sounds demand.

Angel Olsen - Tiniest Seed

Two great new videos for Angel Olsen dropped on NPR yesterday, and it’s just further data in the growing pool of data to support my love for her. Halfway Home was one of my absolute favorite albums of 2012. You can read more about this video and the one for her new track Sweet Dreams here. There’s a pretty awesome story to the creation of both these songs and their videos which were shot on 16mm film.

Night Panther - Fever

I’ve been waiting for this one for a while. Ever since I got a taste with that little trailer, I’ve been itching to see the complete version. Though I could’ve never imagined such an epic as this. It’s got everything a terrible 80’s movie can muster. Enjoy!

I feel equally proud and dirty for premiering this 11+ minute video slash pulp film. It is nothing if not wildly ambitious. Corralling a Porche, a plane, a speed boat, plenty of kitch FX, any number of strange and lux locations on a DIY budget alone make me impressed that this Pennsylvania band has vision. Not to mention balls. There are plenty of classic “Sabotage” and “Scarface” references here, but you’ve gotta respect the lengths these guys went to bring their late-night stoner visions to fruition.

The Polaroid Bear - Heavy Burden

This unique gem of genre-combining wonder stumbled across my ears earlier this week, and I’ve been fixated on it. The Polaroid Bear is Los Angeleno Nolan Gordin. He has allowed the confines of genre to have no sway on the sounds he creates, rather he pulls the best parts of genres like folk, beat, and electronic production, and makes something entirely unique.

The result is This Is All A Ghost, a fascinating album that has me involuntarily pressing play again and again. It’s something dynamic, something refreshing.

Empress Of - Don’t Tell Me

I got to talk in depth with Lorely Rodriguez, aka Empress Of, a few weeks ago for an interview for PORTALS. But, honestly, my love for her started the first time I saw her eat a watermelon. She has fast become one of my favorite up-and-coming artists. It’s hard not to become obsessed after listening to even half of her unique musical experiment, colorminutes.

2013 undoubtedly holds big things for Lorely, and I will be here enjoying every moment of it. So happy Yours Truly was there to capture this moment above.

I’m back to reality after a long, fun, and exhausting vacation. I discovered WALL, an amazing female producer from the UK, just before I left on vacation over a week ago, and her minimal spacious dream pop has been a quiet reprieve for me in the midst of family and crazy nieces and nephews running around. Particularly this track, Magazine. The music is so simple that it becomes intensely intimate. And I think I may be obsessed.

So glad to be seeing more and more talented female producers and artists! Adding WALL to the likes of recent favorites like Empress Of. Listen to a couple more singles as well as two amazing covers by WALL here.

I recently posted this dream jam a few weeks ago, and these found images compliment the sounds perfectly. The sleeping children, the chilled out beach vibes. These are the things dreams are made of.

Karneef - Bring You Back

Montreal has no shortage of brilliant, albeit weird, artists. And Karn Synario is no exception. I introduced you to his solo project a few weeks ago with a remix by Touchy Mob. Now he’s back with this simple, yet funky, video for Bring You Back. He’s got some serious moves, and an insanely catchy vibe. Not to mention a freeze frame so golden I dare you not to smile.

Angel Olsen - Acrobat

I’m actually writing about this out of regret that I haven’t previously written about it. Angel Olsen’s latest album, Half Way Home, is a bit of a departure for me, but has ended up being one of my most listened to albums of the year. And here I am realizing I’ve never once mentioned it on the music blog I run to share music I love…

Angel’s music captured me almost instantly. A minute into Acrobat, and I was in a trance. The music, which is perfectly suitable and simple, instantly is overshadowed by that voice. Her voice is something I’ve never really heard before. The range, the depth, and the strangeness of her voice is something completely irresistible to me. And where Acrobat is one of her more solemn tunes, there are plenty of upbeat tracks as well, such as The Waiting, that may have a more lively composition, but don’t get much lighter lyrically.

Every year, I seem to gleam on to one album during the transition of summer into fall. This year, that album was appropriately Half Way Home. Now if the weather here in LA would only realize that it’s the middle of November, and drop below 75 once in a while.

You can pick up this amazing album from Bathetic Records now. And I’m sorry for not sharing this earlier. It won’t happen again.
