Of course, Vampire Weekend

I finally got around to buying Vampire Weekend’s new album Contra. And it is good, maybe even great.

There has obviously been a lot of buzz about this album. Maybe it was because of the brilliant viral campaign simply involving this captivating picture seen on the cover art. Which eventually linked to ithinkuracontra.com which hosts four videos displaying different facets of the bands unique aesthetic.

All of this to say, from everything that was available to watch and read before the albums actual release, I had a pretty good idea about the album. From what it meant to the band, to how it was produced, etc. I have seen few bands be as intentional about sharing with everyone what went into an album. And with a growing gap between the band and the listener, it’s been really cool to see a band as popular as Vampire Weekend take time and be really upfront about what their music is to them.

It’s all a part of making the music less about themselves, and more about the music, and the community it can create.

Vampire Weekend = White Sky

Vampire Weekend = California English
