Thrupence - Winston
Melbourne producer, Thrupence, has risen to the top of my list of people to watch with his previous two beat tapes. The thing is, he was making those beat tapes from old scraps, beats he didn’t know what to do with. Beats he might just throw away if he didn’t find something to do with them. It’s like being beat by someone playing left handed, only to find out the whole time they’re actually right-handed.
After listening to his brand new Voyages EP, it’s clear he’s switched hands, and started playing right-handed. Jack Vanzet is an extremely thoughtful guy, and it bleeds into his music. His active search to contribute beauty into this world is palpable. You don’t often hear these kind of peaceful, meaning-centered themes in electronic music. Squeezing naturalistic themes out of an unnatural form of music making takes a special touch; a touch that Thrupence clearly has.
Go read more from Thrupence, and his creative mind, in this amazing interview he did for PORTALS, curated by Holly of East to West. And don’t forget to pick up the Voyages EP here.
