Stephen Farris was kind enough to send over this new video and song for what’s going to be a very exciting release. He’s actually planning on doing a VHS release for his next album, because he is putting together visualizations, like this one for each song on the album! I don’t think I’ve heard of someone doing this. But it sounds awesome! You can definitely sign me up!
Chicago’s Está Vivo is making some creamy folk pop, with just the right amount of tropical chill to make you exhale with contentment. To me he sounds like a smokier, American version of Bobby Aherne of No Monster Club. You can go download this single over here. You’re supposed to be able to download the other single “Just For Us” but it looks like the link is broken you can just go get it and more here.
Check out his tumblr too! And be on the lookout for his new album “Together We Step”.
Russia in color – A century ago

These are color photos of the Russian Empire from 1910, and how they did it is amazing!
These are seriously some awesome photos. It’s a wonder how they figured out how to project these in color. And the quality!
Lots of awesome potential album covers here…

Ice Cream Shout = Tattooed Tears
Wow, this track really is infectious. Perfect for this hot, lingering summer day. And their album is only ¥1,500! I have no idea how many US dollars that is, but I’m sure it’s reasonable.
I instantly fell in love with this track after seeing it on Stadiums and Shrines a few minutes ago. Anyone who has ever liked any song by The Smiths will do the same.
Ice Cream Shout are from Japan and have their first album out on their Big Cartel and on Itunes.
Though it might seem like just a bunch of descriptive animal names, this song “Whale” by Yellow Ostrich has been circling my ears for the last week, and I’ve got kind of a thing for whales. Alex Schaaf makes some surprisingly well produced, yet at times, lo-fi sounding music. Composed, orchestrated, harmonized, and prolific. He’s got more albums, EPs, and singles than you can shake a stick at and he’s giving them all away for free over here. I haven’t even begun to break the surface of his material, but I already know he’s one to look out for.

Stephen Farris = After a Moment
I was excited to receive something once again from the prolific beat maker, VHS nostalgia master Stephen Farris. You probably know him as Cosmic Sound, but he is no longer going by that moniker, rather by his “christian” name, simple as that. Though as you can tell by this brand new track, the name change has done nothing to change his dynamic sound.
He’s currently working on a release for Alpha Pup Records who definitely have it in with some heavier hitters. Be on the lookout!
Active Child = Wilderness (Houses Remix)
Remixing someone like Active Child has to be one of the bolder moves an artist can make. Yet Houses makes this already grasping, operatic track into a percussive bounce-house fit for a clergy.
London based label Merok (tumblr) just posted a little mp3 bundle that included this gem, and I couldn’t resist. Looks like they have some exciting things going on over there, definitley a label to be watching.

Gospels = Apparition
A feeling so ethereal, so ghostly, you’d wonder if you ever even heard it. With faintly landing percussion, and droning organs, Gospels is giving us something dark and murmuring to believe in. Apparition will be on their upcoming full-length Frames of Reference out on Hand Rolled Gold this fall.
You can go stream Apparition as well as another single Nocturnaleyes from Frames of Reference at their bandcamp. Ushering us out of the summer, and into autumn.

Some things are just too helpful not to reblog. Mark has always had an eerily good knack at making comprehensive internet lists. This one just goes to show.
Read up and double the amount of people you follow in a real way. Thanks for doing the internet a service Mark!

It’s always a safe bet that Peter over at Ears of the Beholder will post some class A jams. This one by Seekae is no exception. Off their upcoming album to be released early 2011, “Blood Bank” includes an insanely infectious beat that crawls inside your psyche as if to make a home. Check out their blog to keep up to date with their whereabouts, creations, and much more.

Blackbird Blackbird’s anticipated EP Rarities is at last ready to be downloaded, unzipped, dragged, then dropped into your iTunes library to sit alongside the dozens of other tracks filling the “B” section.
Getting overly excited to meet Mikey this Tuesday at what could be the greatest show this side of the Mississippi.
Bonus :: Blackbird Blackbird = Avalanche (Star Slinger Remix)
Gobble Gobble - End of Days
Pretty much exactly how a typical GBL show goes. Dead girls and all. Love them.
